Hotels and holiday properties are increasingly turning to drone technology to stand out in a competitive market. Aerial photography and videography remain the most in-demand services, offering stunning views of buildings, grounds, and surrounding landscapes that elevate marketing campaigns and social media content. These visuals help potential guests imagine the experience before they book.
Another fast-growing trend is immersive virtual tours that combine aerial and ground-level perspectives. These interactive experiences allow guests to explore a property online, boosting engagement and conversion rates.
Beyond marketing, drones are being used for practical purposes such as roof inspections, landscaping checks, and even construction monitoring. These services save time, reduce costs, and improve safety for property managers. Whether it’s creating breath-taking promotional content or streamlining maintenance, drones are becoming an essential tool for hospitality businesses looking to impress and operate efficiently

New UK drone regulations from 1st January 2026
From 1 January 2026, the UK is introducing several important changes to drone regulations aimed at improving safety and accountability for flying drones or when producing drone photography & film. Anyone flying a drone or model aircraft weighing 100 grams or more will need to pass an online theory test to obtain a Flyer ID, and most operators will also need an Operator ID. A new classification system for drones, UK0 to UK6, will make it easier to understand where and how each drone can be flown, and class-marked drones will have simpler rules. Remote ID technology will become mandatory for class-marked drones, broadcasting the operator’s details and flight information, and by 2028 this will apply to legacy drones as well. For night operations, drones must be fitted with a green flashing light. Finally, the Civil Aviation Authority will act as the Market Surveillance Authority to ensure all drones sold in the UK meet safety standards. These changes are designed to keep skies safe and build public confidence as drone technology continues to grow. See the CAA for more information on the new 2026 regulations for the UK
Drone regulations in France
Since Brexit, the UK and France follow similar categories—Open, Specific, and Certified—but there are important differences for commercial drone operators. In the UK, operators must obtain a Flyer ID for drones weighing 100 g or more and an Operator ID for drones with cameras from 100 g (or all drones ≥ 250 g), reflecting a lower threshold than France’s 250 g limit for registration. UK regulations also now require class‑marked drones (UK0–UK6) and mandatory Remote ID broadcasting for these drones from 2026, with legacy models catching up by 2028.
In France, drone operators follow the EU’s EASA rules, using CE class markings C0–C4, and must register on the AlphaTango platform if their drone weighs more than 250 g or includes a camera, displaying this Operator ID on the drone. A basic online exam (A1/A3) is needed for drones >250 g, and an additional A2 certificate is required for operations near people. France also enforces stricter rules around insurance, no-fly zones, and night flying, which generally requires explicit exceptions and proper lighting, contrasting with the UK’s green-light requirement for night operations.
Overall, the UK’s framework has tighter thresholds and newer digital ID systems, while France adheres to broader EU rules with heavier emphasis on traditional certification, platform registration, and designated operating zones.
